Walton was a painter of landscapes and coastal scenes in both watercolour and oil. He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours between 1862 and 1882 and was also a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and President of the Institute of Oil Painters. Works by him are in the collection of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
