Good quality and unusual, mid 19th Century rosewood cased ‘Improved Sympiesometer’ – No. 2419, in original condition; the ‘ogee’ pediment over finely engraved silvered brass register plates, signed by the maker and protected by bevelled glass, bearing Fahrenheit thermometer and sympiesometer tubes – both original -, unusual rack-and-pinion operated sliding barometer scale and circular register plate to the base.

Winter was an accomplished instrument maker, who, together with his son and grandson, operated from premises at 21 and 55 Grey St. from 1838-96.
