WILLIAM ROXBY BEVERLY (1811-1889) 16.00cm wide 23.50cm high (6.30 inches wide 9.25 inches high) Description / ExpertiseFrom a theatrical family, Beverly began his career as a scene painter and actor working in the north of England. As a boy he studied under Clarkson Stanfield before working for a time in Edinburgh and Manchester and moving to London in 1853 when he was appointed scenic director at Covent Garden. He painted in oil and watercolour, mainly coastal scenes although he visited the Lake District, Paris and Switzerland. He exhibited at the the Royal Academy between 1865 and 1880. Sold
